  • How To Sleep Under The Stars

Take a deep breath and know you are safe in your faith. Whichever God or Gods you choose to follow. Believe it or not you can believe in yourself. Trust you have done everything you can to stay safe.

    Passion Play

Know you can choose where to focus your attention. Doing simple abdominal breathing exercises will cause your pineal gland to release it’s own melatonin.

You do not need to buy it at the pharmacy and it will wear off as soon as the sunlight strikes your eyes.

    Surprised?

    Night night.

  • I Second That Emotion

    I Second That Emotion

    Journal Entry: August 29, 2026

Filling my water bottle from a fountain in a town someone forgot to name. Germany on the border of France. Judging from the trail markers.

My compass sits on a French tourist map lined up with due North. I hope.

The high tension wires will send it spinning.

Trying to remember where my grandfather was stationed.

    “Dropped behind enemy lines .”

    Keeps popping into my head.

    That would be my uncle.

    Wrong country, wrong war.

He was a paratrooper in Vietnam.

Crazy enough to jump out of a helicopter.

    Crazy enough to volunteer.

    Twice.

They say it runs in the family.

A car pulls in the drive across the street.

Mom jumps out , runs into the house without turning in my direction.

The daughter, a toeheaded youngster is heading to the garage to do what she can to help bring groceries inside.

She sees me and looks confused.

I smile and give a short , two finger salute.

    She smiles and waves

Dad notices she is outside and quickly steers her by the shoulder towards the door.

Everyone inside and i realize I am scaring half of Europe to death with my backpack and bedroll and too long , too old for this shit, hair.

My thoughts wander to the past and the future and back again.

The wind blows the map onto the ground. Doestoyevsky’s, The Idiot, turns out to be heavy reading but not a great paperweight.

The threat of thunderstorms draws me back to the present.

Folding the map and hooking the compass to my beltlloop, checking to be sure it’s packed.

Walking past the family house , turning back to watch the thunderclouds approaching.

I see the young girl in the upstairs windows, watching, worried.

I smile and give another two lingered salute.

    She smiles and waves,.

She only wanted to be sure I am okay.

  • Conscious Breathing, Repressurization

    Conscious Breathing, Repressurization

This is a wonderful way to rest and replenish your core after expending energy.

Breathe deep into your abdomen and explore. How much do air can you fit in there?

Is that it? Are you sure there is no more room in your core for more air?

    Yes, Your Extremities

Pull more through your nose and push air down your legs to your toes.

    See how it goes.

Try again with your arms and hands and fingers.

You may be surprised how much air you can fit in there.

Your Brain And Body Thank You

Do this a few times and each time you exhale pull your abdominal wall in and expel all air.

Be gentle, no need to force yourself. Just explore what you can do.

The point of the exercise is to directly experience the breath in your body and explore how you feel or experience your inhales and exhales.

Stretching your abdominal walls signals to the brain the stomach is full and it’s time to relax.

    Bonus Brain Chemistry

The act of focusing your attention on the breath expanding your abdomen creates a little seek, find and reward loop in your brain to get the pleasure chemicals dopamine and serotonin flowing naturally.

This is a double bonus because stretching your abdominal walls directly stimulates the Vagus nerve to release acetylcholine. (Vagus Stuff)

Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter which acts a catalyst for other neurotransmitters.

It plays a large role in your body’s relaxation response. Cigarette smokers are looking for this each time they light up. Nicotine in tobacco products mimics acetylcholine and binds to the same receptors in the brain.

This can be useful to know when trying to quit. Your brain will need the real thing.

  • Don’t Fence Me In

    Don’t Fence Me In

    Journal Entry, April 7, 2026:

    Torres Del Mar, Spain.

If I am here. I belong here.

Like they say in the Real Estate business.

    Location, Location, Location! (lol)

I am on the trail near a rich neighborhood.

    feeling lost….

They try to change street names on the map.

    paint over trail markers.

    Signs saying, “Private Neighborhood “.

    No Shit!

All homes are private, but you can’t make it look like ‘no entry’ on a Public Road with Public Services!

I am only trying to get to nature and you fence me in…

    Barricade the trees

I scream, “You cannot take this away from me!”

“The only reason I am in your neighborhood is you fenced me in and I am trapped!”

“You cannot take this from me!

My trail, My path, My Destiny!

Saint Michael and Gabrielle are the only two archangels mentioned by name in the Bible.. If you are into that sort of thing.

    On Visitations

I have never been very religious or pious or even much of a believer in anything.

It all seemed to me to be magical thinking.

One day after realizing my survival of several accidents during.my lifetime was borderline miraculous , I began to wonder.

What if all these fantastic stories people told over and over through the centuries were true?

Most fiction is based on real life events. There. Is a kernel of truth in everything.

Hello Miguel, Goodbye Burger and Fries

When I studied folklore about angels acting as spiritual guides on Earth I learned they can appear in human form.

I am told to pay attention to the names, whether male or female because angels are androgynous.

Mine appear as Michael/Michelle the protector or Gabriel/Gabrielle when I ask for healing or guidance.

    Careful What You Wish

Early on during my journey through Spain I again did a spirit guide meditation.

The next morning I impulsively boarded a bus to Granada, Spain. I ran to the top of Alhambra and the view blew my mind.

This time I am stuck in Granada trying to use Burger King WiFi on my laptop and contact my ba k in the United States.

The bank does not accept emails and does not care my phone was stolen and I am overseers in Spain.

    The Ask

I am eating my Whopper Menu wondering how to get through the month with less than 30 bucks.

A tattooed hand slammed the plate glass window. When I looked up a panhandler was pointing at my burger and rubbing his belly.

I waved him in and asked if wanted to eat.

That is how I met Miguel. (Spanish for Michael) He had the number 13 inside the star of David tattooed on his hand.

My Spanish was poor but I understood he was from Seville. He spoke between bites.

I tried to explain my shirt and tie and jacket combo was from a church sale and I am not a rich man.

    Pay Attention

Miguel was not paying much attention to me but when finished eating he put out his tattooed hand and I shook it.

I took it and he winked at me from under his hat and said, Thank you, clearly in English and got up to leave.

I know Miguel was thanking me for the act of giving this dude a cheeseburger without hesitation and not only just the food.

I understand I am no saint but a visitation counts for something, right?

  • All You Gotta Do Is Smile

All You Gotta Do Is Smile

Have you heard the song, “Keep on Smiling Through The Pain?Concentrating on your smile muscles is the quickest way to release some dopamine into your system.

Go ahead, try it, I guarantee in two minutes you will be giggling yo’ m’fing ass off!

What If I Don’t Feel Like Smiling?

If you are in too much pain to smile, try growling at the pain instead. Primates, including us have this ability to bare our teeth to communicate happiness or anger and the reward to the brain is the same. Pleasure…

Yawning also triggers the release of your favorite natural pharmaceuticals, endorphins, dopamine and serotonin.

    No Wonder it’s contagious!

I Am Just A Bundle Of Nerves

This network of small but strong muscles tissues is hard wired to the brain.

Stretching your jaw muscle releases pressure on the points where your nerves in your body communicate to your brain.

The Vagus nerve also wanders through the jaw.

You can also get the precious cerebrospinal fluid in motion you may be holding back unconsciously.

Try it, you might like it.

Stanford University Science is still up in the air on the one.

  • The Persistent Personality Problem

    The Persistent Personality Problem

Do you remember when you first became you? My daughter described to me precisely the time when her inner narrator or consciousness appeared within their awareness.

I argue we were people with personalities long before we learned language to describe events. Often our thoughts can appear as pictures on the cavern walls of our minds.

In such a way, my cat could consciously deliberate his actions and wait until I left the room to gorge on the chicken bones I left in the trash.

Are You The Same Person Throughout Life?

Now I am approaching my sixth decade and I laugh at myself for still thinking I am the same person.

I see older people on the tour busses in Europe and think, look at all those geezers riding the bus!

I stop laughing when I see my reflection rolling past and looking at me on the same bus!

I still feel like that twelve year old kid i was when my inner narrator appeared on the scene.

    Freedom, Religion and Biology

Most of my cells have changed, I have learned a lot from reading the thoughts of others in libraries around the world..

I still remember family telling me I was exactly like my uncle. My uncle suicided the year I was born. I am not sure how he could pass so much along. I never met him.

Personality does persist throughout the ages.

My daughter started out stead, strong, almost stoic. From the moment she could walk and talk, We all wondered.

Where did she get that from? 😉

  • Momentus Momentum

    Momentus Momentum

When you harness great energy, it can be hard to slow your roll. When you get older and you are used to changing roles faster than you change your clothes. Abrupt stops can be painful. Both physically and psychically.

    Interplanetary Forces

Independent people have difficulty letting go of control or worse, feeling someone else controls their destiny.

It can be in your nature to struggle and fight till the end, even when you forget the cause.

When do you let go and go with the flow?

    William’s Signpost Checklist

William could not let go of the Momentum. Even though the Universe was hitting the brakes hard!

First day attempting to bicycle from Tende, France to Limone, Italy, William found the tunnel was closed on the only road to ride.

Did he stop? He traveled south and found crossings into Italy near Sospel and Menton, France. Bumping his nose like a mouse in a maze searching for cheese.

    Sign, Sign Everywhere A Sign

If you feel as if the universe is trying to stop your progress with a new and unmistakable obstruction each day.

Maybe the universe is trying to tell you something. Take a break and listen. Remember your true intention.

Trust the universe has your back and will push, pull, nudge you in the right direction.

Sometimes it may hit you with a truck!
